The piece was composed for two sisters, who play Flute/Clarinet as well as the piano (both of them). So The first two movements are pieces for one wind instrument and piano accompaniment. In the third movement each of the players plays the wind instrument with the left hand, while the right hand of both players plays the piano, so that the finale is a kind of trio for two players.
