Why Music in the Midst of the Climate Crisis? How Environmental Protection and Music Influence Each Other

Does it even make sense to create new works of art when the future of our planet is so uncertain? I believe it does, because we can still make a difference, and the challenges of our time can even serve as a new source of inspiration. Music has always been an expression of its time, making audible what is most relevant to humanity.

Using my compositions "Insect Concerto", "Recycling Concerto", and the recently premiered "Tipping Points. Fourteen Ways to Describe Climate Change" with Harald Lesch at the Berlin Philharmonie, I will explain how the threats of insect extinction, pollution, and climate tipping points manifest in my music and how, despite all challenges, art can help us rediscover hope.
