Recycling Concerto
The topic of environmental destruction dominates this moment in time.
In particular we must urgently decide what to do about our trash, waste and poisonous materials.
The composer and conductor Gregor A. Mayrhofer saw this as an opportunity to address the issues in a musical way and composed a concerto for recycled percussion and orchestra dedicated to the young percussionist Vivi Vassileva: The Recycling Concerto.
On March 30, 2026, the Recycling Concerto was released as a 4-LP edition – recorded with the SWR Symphony Orchestra and Vivi Vassileva.
It is the world’s first release of a symphony orchestra recording on vinyl made from recycled waste. In line with the central idea of the Recycling Concerto, the production of the records also places sustainability at its core: the vinyl records are not only made from recycled ocean plastic, but are also produced exclusively on demand. Unlike industrially manufactured records, they are not pressed but cut directly into the material. Produced using machines from the Vienna-based manufactory Phonocut, each record is created individually and becomes a handcrafted unique piece – analog, sustainable, and audiophile.
